Casa Hogar San José

Casa Hogar San José is a safe home for 25 children who are between the ages of 3 to 10. These children are victims of abandoment or placed in the foster care system by the judicial authorities. Living in Casa Hogar provides a stable and nurturing environment in which the children can grow up. The children receive balanced meal, safe and adequate housing, primary school education, and proper health care.
In 2006 a second children’s home will be opened, Holy Family, to house the adolescente children who need a separate residence to the younger children. This will be started in March with 5 children from St. Joseph’s home. The new home is near San Lucas school so the children will not have so far to travel to study.
Because the children’s home are operated by the church, they do not receive funds from the government. The $1,000 per month budget that the home strives to operate within only provides the most basic care for the children, and is very little when compared with child care in the Industrialized West. Casa Hogar is staffed by the Director and two qualified live-in social workers. It has been blessed with the occasional Gap Year student missionaries from the UK, working full-time for several months, and providing not only an extra pair of hands, but desperately need love and support to the children. Financial, professional, and student (i.e., Gap Year, missionary, etc.) volunteersupport for this project will help to continue to provide support to the children and improve their lives.
