The Duck Project is a course in which people from the shanty towns and invasions learn to raise ducks and vegetables. At the beginning of the 3-month course, participants are given ducks and seeds. They are taught how to breed and care for the ducks, and how to plant and sustain a vegetable garden. Through continuous lessons, the participants are able to produce ducklings and a vegetable garden, both of which will provide food for their families and for sale to individuals and shops. The valuable skills that the participants learn provide on-going, long-term benefits to them and their families.

The Duck Project has been running since 1997. It was started by Norma de Montoya who worked for many years in the Ministry of Agriculture. Norma continues to be the Project Coordinator. Initial resources to the participants are provided by the Project. Financial support for this project will help provide ducks, feed, and seeds to the participants.
