Salud CommunitariaCommunity HealthMedical work and health education in the shanty towns. Following medical campaign work in Lima with Medical Ministry International (MMI) in 2004 the Diocese has set up its own campaign extension work. Once a month the Medical team, plus volunteers and helpers, go out from the medical centre to offer basic medical and dental attention and preventative health education in invasion areas where there is no water or electricity. Tents have been purchased and the medical post is set up on waste ground or in a football pitch and patients come for their medical care. Donations of medicines have enabled many patients to receive the treatment they need with only a very small cost for the consultation. A team of health promoters from the local Anglican churches receive training and then help during the campaigns giving talks and sharing the gospel with the patients. Also part of this community health work in the Diocese are several breakfast feeding projects reaching over 200 children weekly with a balanced meal and regular health checks. Support for this ministry will enable campaigns to be continued and also extended into other areas and the nutritional breakfasts to be developed in other areas.
